In our community

Public transportion is the lifeline to community. According to a 2006 survey of T passengers, 47 percent of bus riders indicated they primarily use the T to get to and from work, and 18 percent primarily use the T to get to and from school. The T also transports people to medical appointments, shopping, afterschool events, or visiting with friends and family.

The need for public transportation is expanding. The average family spends nearly 20% of their budget on transportation. A family of four with an annual budget of $40,000 could save over $6,500 a year by using public transportation instead of a personal vehicle.

Below are four stories of how accessible community transportation in Lawrence has changed lives.
