Contracted Transportation Services:
Request for Proposal

The City of Lawrence and the University of Kansas are jointly soliciting sealed proposals from qualified transportation providers for furnishing labor, materials, equipment, and facilities for performing all work necessary and incidental for operation and management of transportation services for the City and University beyond 2008 when existing contracts expire.

Specifically, the City and University are seeking a single price proposal to provide transit services for the City and University according to consortium pricing. Price proposals are also being solicited through this procurement for the separate operation of service for either the City or University should for any reason contracts for both City and University services not be awarded to one contractor.

Proposers are advised that certain elements of the Scope of Work vary between the City and University. Proposers should carefully review the terms of the Scope in order to prepare proper responses and price proposals.

A copy of the Request for Proposal can be obtained by contacting Cliff Galante, Public Transit Administrator, Lawrence Transit System, P.O. Box 708, Lawrence, KS 66044, calling (785) 832-3464, faxing (785) 832-3462, or by e-mail at cgalante@ci.lawrence.ks.us. Proposals must be received by LTS on or before 2 p.m. (CST), Friday, February 29, 2008. A mandatory pre-proposal conference is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2008 at 1 p.m. (CST) at Lawrence City Hall. Proposals shall be valid for 180 days from the proposal deadline.

The successful proposer must comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations. The City and University reserve the right to postpone, accept or reject any and all proposals, in whole or in part, on such basis as each deems necessary and in its best interest to do so. Furthermore, the City and University affirmatively assure that no proposer will be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, age, disability, religion, ancestry, marital status, national origin, place of birth or sexual preference.

Announcements

Route 8 to reroute on KU campus this summer

Jayhawk Boulevard and Mississippi Street will be closed over the summer for repairs to the tunnels on campus. Construction is projected to start on Monday, May 19th. Route 8 will be rerouted for the duration of the closure. A good place to catch the bus will be on Mississippi at the pedestrian crossing linking the Spencer Museum of Art and the Kansas Union.

Buses to reroute for Art Tougeau Parade on Saturday

On Saturday, May 17, buses will reroute for the Art Tougeau parade, from approximately 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. During this time, buses will use alternate stops. When downtown, Routes 3, 4, 6 and 8 will pick up and drop off passengers at 9th and Vermont. Routes 1, 2, and 7 will pick up and drop off passengers at 9th and New Hampshire.

Closing of Iowa Street bridge means an extended reroute for Route 3

The Iowa Street bridge over the Kansas Turnpike closed in December 2007 for reconstruction. The project is expected to last approximately 6 to 8 months. Route 3 is following a reroute using Kasold Drive and will still be able to provide service to the North Iowa industrial park.

Day pass available for the T

Making multiple trips in a single day? Give the day pass a try. The pass is the only one that is purchased directly from the bus driver. Once it's punched, you can use the pass for unlimited rides on that day. Full fare day passes are $2.75, and reduced fare passes are $1.35 with valid identification.
