Route 1 rerouted at Delaware Street
June 17
Route 1 is rerouted to avoid road work on Delaware Street between 9th and 11th Streets. The work is expected to last at least a week.
Southbound: Traveling east on 9th, bus will turn south on Connecticut, east on 11th and back on route.
Northbound: Traveling west on 11th, bus will turn north on Connecticut, west on 9th and back on route.
Route 6 to reroute for 9th Street repairs
June 8
Beginning June 9, crews will be working on the removal and replacement of curb and gutter sections, milling, patching, and overlay on 9th St from Iowa St to Tennessee St, including the widening of a portion of W 9th St at Avalon Rd to provide a turning lane. Route 6 will need to follow a reroute while the road is closed.
6 Clockwise: Heading west on 9th, bus will turn north on Maine, west on 6th, south on Iowa and back on route. Passengers wishing to catch Route 6 Clockwise can wait at the shelter in front of the Merc or on the east side of Maine between 8th and 9th.
6 Counter-Clockwise: Heading north on Iowa, bus will bypass 9th. Bus will continue north on Iowa, turn east on 6th, south on Maine, east on 9th and back on route. Passengers wishing to catch Route 6 Counter-Clockwise can wait on the east side of Iowa, just south of 9th, or on the west side of Maine between 8th and 9th.
Route 8 reroute for 11th Street closure
June 3
On 11th Street between Indiana and Mississippi, roads are closed to through traffic while a sewer line is replaced and the intersection of Indiana and 11th Street is reconstructed. Work is expected to be completed this summer. Route 8 Northbound will use the following reroute:
Northbound: From Jayhawk Boulevard, the bus will turn east on 13th Street, north on Louisiana Street, east on 11th Street, north on Ohio Street, west on 10th Street, north on Indiana Street and back on route.
Passengers wishing to catch the bus in the area should wait across from the Kansas Union or on Indiana before 9th Street.
Route 8 reroute at Irving Hill Road
May 21
On the KU campus, Irving Hill Road will be closed from Burdick Drive to Engel Road for construction. Route 8 will use the following reroute:
Southbound: Heading west on 15th Street, the bus will bypass Burdick Drive, continue on 15th Street and turn south on Engel Road, west on Irving Hill Road and back on route.
Northbound: Heading east on Irving Hill Road, the bus will turn north on Engel Road, east on 15th Street and back on route.
Passengers wishing to catch the bus at the Burge Union should move to 15th and Burdick Drive or to Irving Hill Road and Engel Road.
Route 8 reroute using Memorial Drive
May 20
Road construction on Jayhawk Boulevard is underway, and Route 8 Southbound will be affected. Buses are using the following reroute:
Southbound: Heading south on Mississippi Street, the bus will turn west on Memorial Drive, then south on West Campus Road and back on route.
Passengers wishing to catch the bus on Jayhawk Boulevard should move to Memorial Drive or Mississippi Street behind the Kansas Union.

Reroute information is posted here and distributed through an
e-mail list (sign up for Public Transit under the category City News) in an effort to alert riders to changes in the bus routes. Whether for road construction, utility work, parades or other circumstances, it is sometimes necessary to detour a bus to avoid road closures. With advance notice, the public is informed prior to the reroute. Other times, immediate action is needed to detour around traffic accidents or to return a rerouted bus to its normal schedule after a project is completed.
We strive to provide information as soon as it becomes available. However, updates can only be made during Administrative Office business hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
