Route 3

Closing of Iowa Street bridge means an extended reroute for Route 3

The Iowa Street bridge over the Kansas Turnpike was closed for reconstruction in December 2007. The project is estimated to last approximately 6 to 8 months. Route 3 is being rerouted, but it still provides service to the North Iowa industrial park.

The reroute uses Kasold Drive to access Lakeview Road, and buses still serve Peterson Road and Princeton Boulevard. However, please note that Peterson Road is only served on the outbound leg of the trip. Passengers wishing to catch the bus on Peterson Road need to do so when the bus is traveling northbound toward Lakeview Road.

The complete reroute is as follows:
Bus will travel north on Iowa St. to Peterson Rd., turn west on Peterson Rd. to Kasold, turn north on Kasold to Lakeview Rd., turn east on Lakeview Rd. to its usual turnaround location.

Bus will depart the Lakeview turnaround heading east, turn south on North Iowa St., turn west on Kresge Rd. to the first service road, turn north and turn around in the gravel lot.

Bus will travel east on Kresge Rd., north on North Iowa St., west on Lakeview Rd., south on Kasold, east on Princeton Blvd. and back on route.

Passengers wishing to catch the bus on Peterson Road will need to do so while the bus is heading northbound. Passengers wishing to catch the bus at the North Iowa industrial park will still be able to get on at the regular stops in that area.

Route 8

Route 8 to reroute on KU campus this summer

Jayhawk Boulevard and Mississippi Street will be closed over the summer to allow repairs to the tunnels on the KU campus. Construction is projected to start the day after commencement, May 19th. Route 8 will need to be rerouted for the duration of the closure. The reroute will be as follows:

Outbound: Bus will depart 9th and Massachusetts heading west to Mississippi, turn south on Mississippi to Memorial Drive, turn west on Memorial Drive to West Campus Road, turn south on West Campus Road to Jayhawk Boulevard and back on route.

Inbound: Bus will follow the same route in reverse.

Passengers who would normally catch the bus on Indiana St., at the Kansas Union, or along Jayhawk Boulevard will need to move to another location. A good place to catch the bus will be on Mississippi at the pedestrian crossing linking the Spencer Museum of Art and the Kansas Union.

About reroutes

Reroute information is posted here and distributed through an
E-mail newsletter in an effort to alert riders to changes in the bus routes. Whether for road construction, utility work, parades or other circumstances, it is sometimes necessary to detour a bus to avoid road closures. With advance notice, the public is informed prior to the reroute. Other times, immediate action is needed to detour around traffic accidents or to return a rerouted bus to its normal schedule after a project is completed.

We strive to provide information as soon as it becomes available. However, updates can only be made during Administrative Office business hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For up-to-the-minute status on a bus route, please contact MV Transportation, which provides daily bus operations, at (785) 312-7054.
