Communities In Motion – On Thursday, October 16th swimming and education at the Indoor Aquatic Center were a few activities planned to help Lawrence recognize the national initiative, "Communities in Motion". Repeating the popular prize patrol from 2002, staff and City Commissioners were out thanking riders for their support and handing out prizes. Communities across the nation worked to educate citizens about the value of public transportation.
Helmet Fair – In cooperation with the annual Lawrence Helmet Fair and Bike Rodeo sponsored by the Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical Department and others, the Lawrence Transit System waived the fare for children 12 and under and an accompanying adult to take their bikes and attend the event.
Jayhawks on Parade – The community and visitors alike could admire the larger-than-life Jayhawks via the "T." Most of the hawks were conveniently located on a "T" route and special punch-pass "T" tickets were available for $5 and at half-price for seniors.
Douglas County Senior Services – The Lawrence Transit System participated in the first annual Transportation Forum designed to educate seniors about the many transportation alternatives available to them. Along with a how to ride talk, seniors were taken on a roving “T” tour that provided first-hand experience with riding a fixed route system.
Farmer’s Market – Douglas County participated in the Kansas Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program, a program to promote better nutrition among low-income seniors and expand the revenue base for farmers using the markets. Launched June 26, the program delivered Lawrence seniors $30 coupons to buy fresh, Kansas-grown fruits, vegetables and herbs at the farmers’ market in addition to monthly nutritional cooking classes. The Lawrence Transit got involved at the local level to provide individuals with transportation, often a key role in program participation.
Donation of Rides – Through the generous financial donation of a community member, the Lawrence Transit System was able to provide ride tickets to several social service agencies to assist their clientele.
