Report Overview Letter
Dear Community,
Three years ago today, the first Lawrence Transit System vehicles hit the street running – on a very cold, icy and snowy day. That first day, we transported 68 passengers. In 2003, we have averaged 911 riders per day. In September, we peaked at an average of 1,004 riders per day. It is exciting to see ridership continue to increase on a regular basis.
A big thank you goes to Mike Sweeten, General Manager, MV Transportation, and his staff for their hours of dedication to making the system a success. We are pleased that the contract with MV has been renewed and look forward to continuing a working relationship that strives to provide the citizens of Lawrence a dependable, clean, safe and cost efficient transit system.
Another thank you goes to the nine members of the Public Transportation Advisory Committee (PTAC), which was established to advise the city on public transit system matters and issues. They are a dedicated group of individuals willing to donate their time to set policies, hold public hearings and to make the difficult decisions about route changes and transit amenities.
The Lawrence Transit System looks forward to providing service to the community with a transit system that is:
- Ahead of the national standards for on-time performance
- Accessible, dependable and user-friendly for all citizens
- Safe, reliable, friendly and clean
- Continuously working to improve the quality and efficiency in serving our passengers and the community.
Sincerely,

Karin Rexroad
Public Transit Administrator
