Happenings in 2003

Surveys – In an effort to determine the needs of our riders, surveys were distributed to passengers during the summer and early fall.  The Route Review Committee is utilizing that information to investigate ways to improve the system.  

Passenger Waiting Shelters – The installation of 17 additional passenger waiting shelters at various locations throughout the city was awarded to Penny Construction.  Installation of “T” logo signage on the 15 existing passenger shelters occurred continuing our marketing effort to create an identifiable brand for the system. 

Master Signage Plan – Bus stop signs were placed along the bus routes to assist passengers in identifying route locations, transfer and timing points, as well as the correct side of the street to wait for the bus.

“T” Stickers – University of Kansas students were provided a new option this year.  The Lawrence Transit System offered KU students who purchased a KU on Wheels bus pass the opportunity to purchase a “T” sticker, adding access to the “T” for a twenty dollar fee.  Students benefited with expanded routes throughout the community, transportation during school breaks and Saturday operation.  A total of $4,840 has been received for the 242 stickers sold August to November.

e-Routes – Transit launched an e-mail based notification system that allows subscribers to learn about adjustments to fixed routes as the information is released.  E-routes uses list serve software that allows subscribers to interact directly with the program to sign up or be removed from the list serve.  To stay up-to-date on re-routes, visit http://www.lawrencetransit.org/reroutes/signup.shtml.

Web Update – Using the city provided templates, the Lawrence Transit System created a new look for our web site.  By visiting www.lawrencetransit.org you can access information about the “Guide To Ride”, the paratransit system, routes, statistics, and contact information.
